Reflections on the topic: “Achivments, achievements, trophies – do they need games?”

Introduction
Somehow completely imperceptibly, without declaring war, achievements have entered my life. This journey began with familiarization with the Steam digital distribution service. You buy a game and most likely there are achievements – everything is simple. But the problem was that they were a side of, like a fifth wheel or a third leg, since they did not stick out in any way, you were not proud of their receipt. Then there was Starcraft II, and with it Battle.Net. And then I saw this very [protrusion] in all its glory. Obtaining an achievement is accompanied by such an enchanting scene that the spirit is breathtaking: a sign appears with a resolution almost more than the resolution of a neglected game, which shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow, and almost the angelic voice of the Paradise Virgin comes from the columns. You understand, here it is – achievement! But … then I bought PS3, and I no longer played on the computer, so I no longer hear angelic voices and I sleep hard at night. In the PlayStation ecosystem, achievements are implemented quite modestly: when they are received, a small gray icon appears, everything is like in Steam. But! There is one solution here that turns upside down everything. Each user has a level that displays the overall indicator of achievements in all games: you get achievements, the level is growing. The XBOX system is even more interesting in my opinion, but I do not have it, so briefly: also, which is the PS3, but the number of user points that give as an indicator for obtaining achievements is an indicator.

The main part
Everything above, I wrote to explain one situation. Having bought the PS3, I decided to try again to join Fallout 3, with which it did not grow together on a computer. Naturally, I looked at the list of achievements, and I realized that everything is complicated. In addition to quite logical achievements (kill 300 cockroaches, collect all the weapons, buy a house), were on the list and conflicting achievements. It was necessary, for example, to complete the task of one slave trader on the capture of runaway slaves.

Lyrical retreat
So my worldview happened that in RPG I cannot play for a bad character. I can’t offend women, kill children and steal. I believe that if you are scum in the game, then in life scum. And I have confirmation from life by the way! One of my comrade and in life lives on the principle of “they will not punish, I will”, and in games. He killed the characters in Kotor, stole in Fallout and became king in Dragon Age. And he always said that he was generally generous, and all for the sake of the highest goal. Well, you understand. So in Fallout there is also an indicator of karma, which rather honestly shows what kind of person you are.

Continuation of the main part
And how do you like the achievement that makes you be the whole game as bad as possible? Are you ready to take up dirty work for the sake of trophy?

Now another example. A couple of months ago, I passed the excellent, but quite simple in terms of the achievements of The Walking Dead. Achievements were given simply for the chapters passed. I went through the game and got all the trophies. Boring? Not the same word!

And today, I finished off 100% far Cry 3. What did it give me? Due to the fact that I earned these achievements, I jumped from the Deltaplan to the ocean, dived into the deepest hollow, burned the jungle flamp, “took advantage of the repair tool for other purposes” and knows what else. Nobody forced me to rape the Tuzemok or to break the graves to get achievements, but just no one also gave them to me.

End
What in the end? And nothing. Because, so that I think that the developers are still on my opinion, what are you, true? I like the approach of the guys from Ubisoft, because it is the most honest and makes you do something strong, and not contradicting your nature, but sometimes so difficult that you want to break the gamepad.
What do you think about this? Whose approach is closer to you? Share in the comments.

The best comments

I personally like it more precisely when the achievements are given not for all sorts of classic “pass such and such a quest” or “kill 3000 someone there”, but all sorts of original things, albeit contrary to nature, but allowing you to go through the game with another approach the next time.

Damn, dude well, “achievements” are game, well, we are pancake on the game site, and the theme of the blog is the same. Well, why write banality? You know that many people like to collect Achivka, and some consider it a serious achievement (thank God, a little) and this does not interfere with “starting a girl”, “build a house”, “plant a tree”, “grow a son”.

Achievements are: “Take a girl”, “Build a house”, “Plant a tree”, “Grow a son”.

And to chase in AC Revelations https://richmoosecasino.co.uk/login/ for a hundred fragments of Animus this is: “Too much free time”, “Nawlaifer”, “Army is waiting”.

Everything is more complicated here. There is a “free” achievement, where the developers were just too lazy to come up with them (go through chapter x), but there are banal ones to kill the XXX goblins. There are moronic ones, like, to transfer three types of second -level weapons to their comrades in the network game and so that they kill at least one monster (from Killin Flor). And the latter – original. These are those that I think should be no more.

Problems:
1. Flying. About nothing. Just for a checkmark. Anyone who plays – gets them.
2. Banal. They get a little, they make you play more. In general, they can be standing. On this below.
3. Moronic. Bake the most. You have to do what you would never do, not knowing what needs to be done. Often almost impossible (especially when it does not work in Steam and you tear your hair in a fury). These achievements include "seasonal". Really infuriates when in the KF can only be performed during Halloween. Of course, it would be nice, but when you missed Halloween, and the next you tell you that it is a yeast and the old ones will not work, you are awesome that you will never get Achivka.
4. Original.
Here I would like to stop in more detail. These are those achievements that are not moronic and not banal and not for check. These are those that are easy to do if you do something that the developer planned.
Examples:
-Metro 2033, achievement of "Black" – accumulate 500 rounds. This achievement is not difficult if you have formed an economical style of play since childhood, when you almost F6-F7 (F5-F9) click constantly. This is an achievement for you! Who plays sloppy – will not receive.
-Deus ex -XP, achievements "do not kill, but only stun".
-Killin Flor, the achievement of "killing a burning enemy from a crossbow". If you play alone, it’s difficult. But playing on the network – easy achievement. If you use a crossbow, just kill the mob set by the fire meter.
-Different games, achievements by the type of "different endings". Issued depending on the actions taken during the game (saved or not the enemy, killed or handed over to the police, gave the child money or sent).

Now the final idea: achievements must be hidden so that there is no struggle and attempts to earn them specifically (and Steam did there at the sales of 2011. Although they did so more so that people buy games, for the sake of performing festive acutions). If we do not know about achievements, then receiving them (when a small window is displayed at the bottom of the screen) will be more pleasant and will not be fanaticism.
There should not be stupid impossible achievements. There should not be a “zombie” (template) achievements, like, kill millions of monsters, sit in the game for a year (in Steam there is an achievement for some kind of game for 365 days, is called the type “maniac” or “vegetable”).
There should be more original achievements. Those given for certain passages of the game.
Banal should be expanded to interesting ones, for example, not just kill millions of monsters, but kill a hundred monsters from Shuriken, or convince a fifty dollars to give up. There should be options, not the quantity for the tape.
And the "free" expand. T.e. Not just “go through the game”, but for example, “go through the game after the main passage at the concerned level and for another Persian”.

In conclusion, I recalled the achievement from Deus ex -X, which was given for the Philny credits and bonus after them. It was nice.

The most perhaps the steep use of Achovka was in f.E.A.R. 3
The tasks were the same as “use the roll” or “make 30 headshots”, but each level was reset or (I don’t remember, damn it) generally every load. And for the implementation they gave the real expo to download the real nishtyaks.

And it so happened that in such an artificial method the developers of the wildest diversified the gameplay and forced to fully use all the possibilities of the game.

This is the right approach, I think.

The most moronic achivka that can be is for passing the main levels and bosses. Which you need to go through to go through the game in the end.

We need, but those that add additional challenge, and not which are given just like that or require playing a day for a day for a day.

Achovka has a bright side)
Motivates to study the world in order to show the work of levets-designers, artists, 3D modeliers. The guys tried, and some Rasher will run in half an hour, and he will not see anything. And at least if the Rasher part -time also Achvkolyub, he will check out all the charms of the OO.

The author is a little, “I can’t do things contradicting my nature”, but at the same time kills everyone in the games freely … Yes, it seems like no one forces them to fulfill them and the achievements that you have reached them and not just you were given them for being at all … I personally like trophies like Easter or for some unusual action or reconciliation, like “it is Persia!»For throwing off the packs of enemies from ledges with a blow.

The War Z, Day Z kill each other for the sake of profit, I tried to kill a man and because he was in my sight, one shot, and your things, but I strangled my conscience, did not let me fulfill the conceived … And someone urinates everyone in a row 🙂

Well, firstly, not “yours”, but “yours”, because I begin to feel like an old man) and indeed the editorial members always say that we support informal communication.
And secondly, in RPG I relate to Achivka in the same way as in any other games. You just go through the first time as it tells your heart, and if you want to knock out the rest of the achievements, then you can pass the second time, all the more follow the changes in the plot.

Regarding an example with a quest from Fallout 3 and similar situations: I agree, for the sake of achieving, I don’t want to fulfill (I also always play for good people, light, paralons, etc.D.), but sometimes it becomes just interesting what the developers came up with, listen to additional dialogs. In such cases, after passing the game, I return to old preservations and pass separately. In the same Mass Effect, you can always answer in dialogs as a paragon or like a renegade, once still re-tried for a renegade-just to listen to new variants of dialogs, to see some new points. But the difference was that with such a passage there was no “Rolepley”, it was not possible to associate himself with the hero, which does not act as you think correctly.

And what am I talking about! If you enjoy the game, and you also fall for this for this – it’s great! But if you are forced to play according to other people’s rules (you want Achivka, know how to spin!) and forced to engage in a dumb, uninteresting garbage – then they are on the side, such problems! In this case, pay attention to a process that does not bring any joy (with the exception of the opportunity to devote Vasya Pupkin by the fact that you have a higher rating and medals more – despite the fact that Vasya, frankly, is a side of your achievements; he played an hour and went to the movie, with a girl!) in my opinion quite stupid. (Although the argument “My life is spent on what I want”, in this case “devotes” all our reasoning.

Achivka should not be “ololo, you have passed this light plot level!", And so that they cause an incentive to fulfill them. Here the valves approached this cool. Remember Achivka about the gnome in the second episode? Achivka should be given for some interesting actions, and not for just killing or passing missions.

Do not need achievements in games. Firstly: they often “force” the game not as you want, but as it is necessary to get them (Achivka). Naturally, achievements are so affected by everyone, but personally they often cause such a reaction. And since I am not unique, then other people, I think, is not a few. Secondly: instead of artificially created conditions for the application of various skills or survey of the world, it is better to make a game that itself, in the process of its passage, would give the opportunity, necessity and choice in application or examination. Third: Any Achivka are spoilers. Some more, some less. In general, these are only the examples of how to negatively affect the game. Therefore, I would better live in a world where there are no things as Achivka. Of course, this is only my opinion.

Maybe not quite on the topic, but … I do not like it when Achivka is given for the game online (for example FIFA 13)! To get platinum in such a game, you must play 100 matches with people unfamiliar to you (half of them will turn out to be trembling in 5 minutes), go into some kind of incomprehensible regimes where people speak the language you unknown, and do anything, just not playing football. In such a game, only “chosen ones” will receive achievements, and you bought it in order to take my favorite Fiorentina in the Italian championship and bring it to the championship (I was “thrown” from the leopard shoulder for such tactics, they say and rejoice, do not interfere with the “chosen ones” to play!)

In DAO, let’s say, so lively characters that they really do not want to do it badly or to act cruelly. So those who do this apparently did not understand the game or really in real life very callous and selfish people. So yes, I think the desire to be good means a lot =)
